DONATE TO A NATIVE-LED ORGANIZATION
Native-led organizations are the most underfunded orgs compared to other organizations—while Native Americans are also the most underserved marginalized population in the U.S.
Large foundations have allocated less than half a percent of their total annual grantmaking to #nativecommunities since 2006 - according to investing in Native Communities Project study. The percentage allocated to Native-led and Native-serving organizations are much lower.
Indigenous women & girls have the highest rates of violence, rape, murders and domestic violence compared to other ethnicities in the U.S. with huge victim servicing gaps throughout #IndianCountry
#Nativeled organizations are not only systemically underfunded we also have to compete with other nonprofits who claim to serve #NativeAmericans and our communities, to which they do not.
It’s imperative when donating to #Indigenous issues to ensure that #nonprofits are not exploiting our culture and issues, and verify they are actually native-led and have Indigenous subject-matter-experts on their board.
